8th Graders: This week is CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK. We recognize the importance of our education in a Catholic setting where we can acknowledge God and His blessings throughout the day. As a teacher, I am grateful to be teaching in a setting where I can encourage your growth in faith and knowledge, as your parents teach you at home. I am also grateful to your parents who have sacrificed in many ways to provide you with this education. May you always cherish your parents and the efforts they make to give you life. As we progress forward through this week let us remember Jesus' words last week, "The measure you give will be the measure you get, and still more will be given you." Let us find ways to give of ourselves to others, give of our time and talents, this will bring about His "Peaceable Kingdom."

8th Graders and Parents: A very sad, yet joyous occurrence has happen in our school family. Matthew Simpson's grandfather, Jerry Brockman, died yesterday morning after battling cancer for many years. While Jerry is now in a more joyous, beautiful, peaceful place with his Creator, we are sadly left without someone who did so much for all of us, was a friend to many, and loved by many. Our class lunches often involved Jerry's helpful hands, as did the barbeques on field day at the end of the school year, not to mention all the support he gave so that his wife Gayle, and his daughter Janelyn, could also help us in so many ways. He will be greatly missed. Please keep all of them in your prayers. There will be a Memorial Service for Jerry this Friday, September 2nd, at 2pm, in the school auditorium, here, at Our Lady of Mercy School.

Class of 2011 - I thank you for your beautiful gifts on Thursday night, especially the gift of your words - spoken and written in my album. The gift I appreciate the most that God blessed me with this year is the gift of spending time with you. You made me think a lot and grow as a human being and in my faith, and I hope that each of you grew by being a part of our class. We have two remaining days together as a class - I hope all of you have many remaining years together as friends - and I beleive they will be very special days. 8th Graders : We started our week well - we now have a "clean slate" - let us keep it as close to that as possible as we finish this last week of Lent. Remember next Thursday is an early dismissal so that you can take quiet time to reflect on the difficult task in front of Our Lord. Thursday night He had His "Last Supper" with His followers, knowing He would be betrayed and tortured and finally die for the people He loved - US. It's overwhelming to think about! Next Thursday plan to celebrate that dinner at St. Patrick's at 7pm Mass, and then follow Jesus' next 24 hours on Good Friday as He is scourged, crowned, crucified and dies. Invite your families to join us for the "Living Stations" this Friday here at school.

8th Graders : We are busy preparing for the Dinner Show and focusing on the Constitution and back at Decathlon and starting Spring sports BUT - most importantly we are still in the Lenten Season, and this week we focus on prayer. If the last sentence sounded overwhelming, take a deep breath and refocus on what matters - say a prayer (talk to God, Jesus or Mary.) Ask them to help you remember to follow in Jesus' footsteps, keeping perspective and seeing the beauty of each person you interact with, as you do these activities. Ask our Lord to help you act and think the way He did, and let us continue to talk to Him throughout this week through prayer.

*Our SERVICE Project in 8th grade this year will be to support Natalie Fletcher, a former graduate and sister to last year's Student Body President, Ben Fletcher. She has moved to San Salvador, El Salvador for the year to work with college students and spread the word of God, helping these students come to understand their responsibility towards those less fortunate. Each student WILL donate $2.00 each month to help Natalie as they learn to share their "treasure" bringing God's kingdom to earth.
